Hamilton International Middle School History Podcasts 2017

A boy wearing headphones, speaking into a microphone. In 2017 we were delighted to continue our partnership with Hamilton International Middle School, this time with eighth grade U.S. History students. We collaborated with  students from Shannon Frizzell’s U.S. History class to create short radio plays about several different topics in American history, from the Salem witch trials to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando.

Our teaching artists visited the students in school to talk about scriptwriting and production and prepare them to read their work aloud in the studio. Then the students came to the studios at Jack Straw Cultural Center to produce their history podcasts with our team of engineers and voice coaches.

This project was produced by Hamilton International Middle School students and Jack Straw Cultural Center with the generous support of the Washington State Arts Commission and individual contributors. The Jack Straw artist team included engineers Daniel Guenther, Camelia Jade, Joel Maddox, and Tom Stiles; vocal coaches Christine Brown, Alyssa Keene, Katya Landau, and Andrew McGinn; and Jack Straw Executive Director Joan Rabinowitz.
