Artist of the Week

The Jack Straw Artist of the Week Podcast highlights work created through the Artist Residency Programs at Jack Straw Cultural Center.
  • Paul Taub - Trailblazers

This week’s artist is flutist Paul Taub, with “Trailblazers,” from his album Oo-ee, which was recorded as part of the 1999 Jack Straw Artist Support Program. To commemorate twenty years of musical activity in the Pacific Northwest, Taub commissioned new works from musicians he had met and worked with in the region. “Trailblazers” was composed by Roger Briggs.

  • Christopher Roberts - Hornbills

The first Artist of the Week is Jack Straw Artist Christopher Roberts, whose album Trios for Deep Voices was recorded at Jack Straw by Doug Haire as part of the Jack Straw Artist Support Program and released by Cold Blue Records.

  • Artscape - Wawali Bonane

This Artscapes radio piece was produced at Jack Straw in 2000 as part of a series highlighting the work of Jack Straw’s resident artists. The project Safarini: In Transit featured African immigrant artists living in Seattle. In addition to Wawali Bonane, a soukous musician born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Safarini included Obo Addy, Kofi Anang, Lora Chiorah-Dye, and Frank Ulwenya. The Safarini compact disc was released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings in 2000.
