  • Andrew Weathers Ensemble - The Plains of Paradise

    Jack Straw Artist Andrew Weathers mixed several recordings of his ensemble at Jack Straw for his Artist Support Program Residency. “The Plains of Paradise” and another of these tracks will be included on a cassette single from Timesuck tapes this spring.

  • William O. Smith - Epitaphs

    Clarinetist and composer William O. Smith died recently after a long and fruitful career, ranging from playing – as Bill Smith – with Dave Brubeck to performing and composing his own pioneering modern classical work. Bill was a longtime friend of Jack Straw and produced a number of projects here, including his 2001 album Solo Music, from which this track is taken. “Epitaphs,” played on two clarinets simultaneously, was composed and performed by William O. Smith, with text from the ancient Arcadian poet Anyte of Tegea.

  • C. R. Grimmer - Boylesque

    Jack Straw artist C. R. Grimmer recently released O-(ezekiel’s wife) as a physical and audio book (produced through the Jack Straw Artist Support Program), through GASHER Journal.   • Judith Roche at JS 50

    Poet Judith Roche reads at JS 50: Jack Straw’s 25-hour marathon performance on June 15th-16th 2012 in celebration of our 50th anniversary. Judith passed away in November 2019, a sad loss for Seattle’s literary community. Judith was a 2001 Jack Straw Writer and curated the 2008 Writers Program, and collaborated with Jack Straw on many other projects and programs over the years. She also touched countless lives of writers and students through her work at organizations and schools such as One Reel, Hugo House, and Seattle University. On January 5th at 1pm, Jack Straw will host a reading and reception to celebrate her life and work. Writers and other members of the community touched by Judith’s life and work will share favorite poems by Judith, new work inspired by her, and their memories of her.

  • William Chapman Nyaho - Volta Fantasy

    This recording of Kwabena Nketia’s “Volta Fantasy” is from William Chapman Nyaho‘s forthcoming album of music from Africa and the African Diaspora, produced through the Artist Support Program. The CD will be released in 2020 by MSR Classics.

  • Amanda Winterhalter - This Is It

    Jack Straw Artist Amanda Winterhalter produced the compilation Fatality Records Vol. 1 – featuring songs about death in the Pacific Northwest – through the Artist Support Program. Amanda and some of her Fatality Records cohort will perform at Jack Straw on December 21st as part of our winter artist showcase.

  • Nuclear Recitals Vol. 1

    Nuclear facility. World’s fastest pianist. 9-foot Steinway grand. Continuous Music. Such was the setting for recording Nuclear Recitals, Vol. 1. Hear an audio excerpt from this ambitious project, produced by Typonexus founder O, a Ukrainian, US-based, multimedia artist, and performed by Ukrainian pianist/composer Lubomyr Melnyk.
