Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month! We’ve been celebrating on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook and via our Artist of the Week podcast, and we hope you’ll join us in taking this opportunity to explore a wealth of music, poetry, and other art by Hispanic and Latinx artists of all ages featured in various Jack Straw programs.
Trinidad Marquez: Entre Los Dos
This performance was recorded as part of Gritos del Alma, our project to recognize and honor the diverse traditions of the people of Mexican descent residing in Washington State.
We’ve worked with 8th graders at Denny International Middle School for years to record and publish their poetry in Spanish, with the help of Jack Straw Writers Claudia Castro Luna and Raúl Sánchez. Abel Rocha and Trio Guadalevin wrote and recorded the song “Viajes” inspired by the 2018 Denny Students’ work.
Listen to interviews and readings from Jack Straw Writers such as Sarah María Medina, Juan Carlos Reyes, Catalina Marie Cantú, Ramon Isao, Casandra Lopez, Kristen Millares Young, Claudia Castro Luna, Raúl Sánchez, and more!
