Greg Campbell
Greg Campbell performs, composes, teaches, and writes about music. With artists and groups such as Bill Smith, Stuart Dempster, Michael Bisio, Wally Shoup, Wayne Horvitz, Ray Holman, Ali Birra, the Tom Baker Quartet, the Affinity Ensemble, Brainstun, the Young Composers Collective, Seattle EXperimental Opera, and Akoma, among others, he has played improvised and composed music on drumset, percussion, French horn, and the drums of the Asante people of Ghana. He has studied performance with Dave Holland, Bob Moses,Tom Collier, Marc Seales, Michael Crusoe, Koo Nimo, Wataru Shinjo, and others. He holds a doctorate in percussion performance from the University of Washington and a masters degree in jazz studies from the New England Conservatory. Excerpts from his dissertation on the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) will be used in a Columbia University course on contemporary improvised music and will also appear in the journal “American Music.”
