On Saturday May 16th, 1998, the beginning of Janice Giteck’s three year residency at Jack Straw Cultural Center was celebrated to an enthusiastic gathering by various performances and demonstrations at Jack Straw Cultural Center.
The event featured a special Meet The Composer town meeting, followed by performances of the music of composer-in-residence Janice Giteck, poetry readings, workshops and jam sessions.
A reception closed the evening.
Participating organizations included the new music ensemble Sonora, the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and Echo Glen Children’s Center – a state correctional facility. Denise, a young woman from Glen was on hand at the workshop and would participate in a five-week music and poetry workshop Giteck Led at the youth center a month later.
Giteck’s newest scores were on display, a sample of the three-year residency she will have with Meet the Composer as she and Jack Straw would continue to produce a number of compositions, programs, recordings and concerts through the end of 2000.
Special thanks to Meet The Composer, The Dupar Foundation and the Kongsdaard-Goldman Foundation for their generous support.
