Now in its eighth season, the Jack Straw Writers Program was established as a component of our Artist Support Program, which assists artists in all disciplines who want to incorporate sound in their work. The purpose of the Writers Program is to encourage the creation of new literary work, to introduce local writers to the medium of recorded audio, and to present them in live readings, on the air, and on the web. Each year an invited curator selects up to fourteen writers from a large pool of applicants. Participating writers receive training in vocal presentation and microphone technique, and their readings and interviews are recorded for use in radio broadcasts and on our web site. Their writing is also published in the annual Jack Straw Writers Anthology, available at the May 2005 readings, and from the Jack Straw store.

A series of public readings, events, and radio programs featuring these writers commenced in May 2004. During September and October 2004, readings aired on KUOW-FM 94.9, and you can find a streaming archive of these episodes on "Radio Intersection" and "The Beat."

Jack Straw Productions would like to thank The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, the Breneman Jaech Foundation, ArtsFund, the City of Seattle's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, King County 4Culture Lodging Tax Fund, the Washington State Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts and our individual contributors for their vital support of our programs and services. Support for radio production provided by Clark Nuber, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants. Special thanks to Humanities Washington for support of the Jack Straw Writers Forum.
