Hearing Time: A Walking Tour of Wallingford

Students from Hamilton International Middle School recently completed "Hearing Time: A Walking Tour of Wallingford." The walking tour cd's are available at several locations in Wallingford and feature oral histories, location sound, and original narrative to guide you on a tour of six sites in this historic Seattle neighborhood. Hamilton International Middle School's website features photographs and script material from the project.

Since the Ace: the Poetry of Charlie Burks

Over several decades, legendary Seattle poet Charlie Burks has developed a loyal and enthusiastic following for his originality, wit, and unique perspective on the world.This collection of remarkable poems appears in a handsome 48-page booklet and a spoken-word CD. The majority of performances are by Charlie Burks. Guest voices include Paul Hunter, Jesse Minkert, Stephen Thomas, and Laurel Anne White. Original music was composed and performed by renowned jazz trombonist Julian Priester and soprano Thomasa Eckert. Charlie Burks received an Artist Support Award from Jack Straw Productions in 2000. The spoken-word CD was recorded at Jack Straw Productions by engineer Wrick Wolff and assistance from Scott Bartlett.

Klavier Nonette

Klavier Nonette is an installation by composer and sculptor - Trimpin, which was featured at Jack Straw's New Media Gallery from January-April 2003. In November, 2002 Jack Straw Productions, the Washington Composers Forum and Trimpin issued a call-for-scores from composers interested in composing new, two-minute, MIDI-based works for toy pianos. Scores were received from around the world and Trimpin selected 24 to accompany the original 17 compositions for Klavier Nonette. This CD serves as documentation of all 41 compositions from composers such as Amy Denio, George Lewis, Liberace, Allen Strange, Diane Thome, and Trimpin.

The Jack Straw Writers Program began in 1997 to provide local writers with a new venue for the presentation of their work and to encourage the creation of new literary works. Up to 14 authors are selected to participate annually.

Gritos Del Alma

This 23-page bilingual booklet and 60-minute cassette provide an excellent introduction to the Chicano/Mexicano music traditions of the Yakima Valley. The booklet covers the history of these traditions and focuses on the life and work of several contemporary practitioners of these art forms. The cassette includes the music and complete song lyrics of Trinidad Marquez, Roberto Rangel y Revancha, Los Capesinos de Michoacan, Mariachi Guanajuato, Los Astros del Norte and Los Campos. Excellent for home or the classroom.

Asian Festivals of Washington State

These three 20-page booklets explore the holiday traditions of three different Asian festivals: Diwali: the Indian Festival of Lights, the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival, and the Hmong New Year. Complete with numerous photos and maps, these books feature information on the music, dance, handicraft and culinary traditions of these cultures. These booklets have already been used extensively as curriculum guides for several grade levels. Educational discounts are available for larger quantities.
